Bio

Mr. Layne serves as Assistant Superintendent for Support Services for the Irving Independent School District. His main responsibilities include: maintenance, custodial services, environmental compliance, security, transportation, energy management, warehouse, food service, athletics, and construction. He has served as the District liaison for the 1997, 2001, and 2007 bond referendums.

His career in public education began in the Katy Independent School District in 1982. He served as an assistant to a consulting architect involved in the design and construction of renovations and additions to existing school facilities. In 1988, he accepted a position with the Midland Independent School District, serving as Director of School Plant Services. In 1991, he came to the Irving Independent School District and has served as Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations, Director of Maintenance and Operations, and Executive Director of Facilities. He currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Support Services, a position he has held since July, 2006.

Mr. Layne is a member of the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO), Association of School Business Officials, the North Texas Maintenance and Operations Association, Association of Energy Engineers, and the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International. He has served as Chairman of the TASBO Maintenance and Operations Research Committee, President of the North Texas Maintenance and Operations Association, President of the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International (DFW Chapter), President of the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International (Southern Region), and as President of the Irving Sunrise Rotary Club. He is currently serving as the Southern Region board member to the Council of Educational Facility Planners, International.

Mr. Layne earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
